Dr. Glenn Frommer

Dr. Glenn Frommer is one of the pioneers of sustainability and the environmental movement, having worked in the field for more than 30 years.
Prior to establishing ESG Matters in Hong Kong and Copenhagen, Glenn held senior management positions with the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) Ltd. in Hong Kong for more than 22 years where he established the sustainability function within the company’s project, operations and property divisions. He issued China’s first Sustainability Report in 2002 and founded the Sustainable Development Commission for the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) in 2001. That also included sustainability reporting for public transport providers, authorities, and manufacturers and the sector’s climate change policy in 2006.

In support of MTRC’s international evolution of rail franchises, Glenn has collaborated in working groups on the development of major sustainability guidelines and standards: GRI (G2 and G3), SASB, IIRC, listings in FTSE4Good and DJSI, SAM, EIRIS, MSCI, Corporate Knights, and the Hong Kong and Singapore Exchanges on their ESG Reporting and Guidelines.

Glenn started working with AccountAbility in 2006 and helped compose the previous and current drafts of AA1000AS. He applied AccountAbility's standards to stakeholder engagement throughout MTRC’s businesses and sustainability reporting.

Glenn supported GRI Focal Point in China, and currently lectures at European universities on sustainability issues and risk management. He consults internationally on ESG Reporting, its implementation and scenario planning in relation to TCFD, development of climate positive plastics, and assists organizational development of ESG with the UN SDGs framework.

Glenn holds a PhD in Aerospace Sciences from Stanford University, is a Fellow and member of several international and local professional bodies, a Fulbright Fellow, and a published author. Not only has he co-authored a book on the Conservation and Protection of Tree Walls in Hong Kong, but he has also published a number of technical papers in acoustics, vibration, railway design, cochlear mechanics, sustainability, and strategic management. He invented a mineral-wool free sound absorbent while at Dampa A/S and received the Danish Working Environment Prize for that achievement. Glenn is the Honorary Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission and continues his involvement in developing climate change issues.

Glenn also writes and performs music. He has played guitar for more than 50 years.
